What is meant by SEEK Safely and why are we SO excited about it?

SEEK stands for Self-Empowerment through Education & Knowledge. The mission of the SEEK Safely organization is …

“Guiding the Self-Help Community toward a responsible future”

Like so many not-for-profit organizations SEEK was launched in the wake of a tragedy and the desire to do something to make sure it didn't happen to anyone else.

Founder Ginny Brown’s daughter died while participating in a self-development program. In the aftermath, Ginny and her family were surprised to discover that the self-development industry is roughly an 11 billion dollar a year business in the US, with absolutely no regulation, structures or systems for accountability

Below is a video of Dr. Glenn Doyle, board president of SEEK Safely Org., speaking at our recent Summit. He talks about the evolution of the organization from a story of tragedy to an overall mission to ensure a safe self-help industry.

He also discusses the importance of the personal stakes that he, and all who have participated in, and benefited from, self development, have in the mission to create a better future of self-help/development.

We are building a learning hub (iLumn8.Life) to bring together lifelong learners with practitioners who offer personal & professional development that enhances and evolves the human experience. So like Dr. Doyle, we have stakes in the field of self-help and we have a vision for its future

One of the practices we have adopted is that all facilitators and practitioners on our platform, or those who are teaching in our workshops and programs, make the SEEK Safely Promise.

THE PRACTITIONERS PROMISE

A person’s journey to self-empowerment and personal improvement is deeply personal, emotional and oftentimes spiritual. We/I acknowledge and support every individual’s right to a safe and constructive journey so that each person might find the personal growth and change he/she seeks.

As an organization/program we/I are committed to providing an environment and experiences that are Truthful, Accurate, Respectful, Protective, have Integrity and are Safe.

SEEK has a fabulous podcast. Check out this episode where Dr. Glenn, Jean Brown (current SEEK manager) and me (Anne) discuss the future (and a little bit of the past) of the self-development/help industry and how we imagine it better for both consumers and practitioners.

We are excited about our collaboration with SEEKSafely.org and hope you will be too.
