ABOUT THE BOOK

Written by a survivor.
Built for recovery.

What Now? is a compassionate, practical guide to life after a high-control group, abusive relationship, or destructive cult.

Written by Chris Shelton — who spent 27 years in Scientology and holds a Master's degree in the psychology of coercive control — it draws on deep personal experience to deliver something more actionable: a toolkit for survivors, their families, and anyone who wants to understand the lasting mechanics of undue influence.

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

More Than a Book Club.
A Real Conversation About Recovery.

Have you — or someone you love — escaped a high-control group, an abusive relationship, or a destructive cult? What Now? by Chris Shelton is one of the most practical, compassionate roadmaps ever written for navigating post-cult recovery. And now, you can go through it chapter by chapter, live, with the author himself.

Over 21 weekly sessions, we use the key takeaways from each chapter as our guide — unpacking the material, asking real questions, and building genuine understanding together. This isn't a lecture series. It's a conversation, hosted in a safe and thoughtful space by iLumn8.Life Founder Anne Peterson.

Whether you are a survivor, a second-generation member, a supportive loved one, or someone fascinated by the psychology of undue influence — this is for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is included in the $359 enrollment?

Your $359 gives you full access to everything this program has to offer — and we mean everything. There are no hidden tiers, no surprise upsells, and no "premium" version you'll wish you'd bought instead.

Here's exactly what's waiting for you:

21 Live Weekly Sessions with Chris Shelton and Anne Peterson, held every Tuesday starting June 2026. Each session is anchored in the key takeaways from a chapter of What Now? — giving you a structured, meaningful framework for every conversation.

Session 1 is a dedicated Orientation, so even if you haven't read the book yet, you'll feel grounded and ready from the very first week.

All Session Recordings, added to your resource page shortly after each live session airs. Life happens — if you miss a week, you won't miss the learning.

The Program Resource Page, a curated library of any materials, references, and supplemental content that builds alongside the program week by week.

Private Community Chat, where you can connect with fellow participants between sessions — ask questions, share reflections, and build real connections with people who genuinely understand the journey.

The freedom to join at any point during the 21 weeks. If you discover this program in week 8, you can enroll that day and immediately access every recording and resource from the sessions you missed.

One price. One community. The whole experience.

Can I join after the program has already started?

Absolutely — and we mean that wholeheartedly.

One of the things we feel strongly about at iLumn8 is that the right program should be accessible when you are ready for it, not just when the calendar says so. Recovery and personal growth don't run on a fixed schedule, and neither should your access to support.

If you discover this program in week 5, week 10, or even week 18 — you are welcome here. The moment you enroll, you'll have immediate access to every session recording, all resource materials, and the community chat from day one of the program. You can catch up entirely at your own pace, in your own time, without pressure.

The live sessions will still be there for you every Tuesday going forward, and the community will welcome you in whenever you arrive.

There is no "too late" here. There is only whenever you're ready.

What is the transfer, cancellation and refund policy?

We want to be straightforward with you about this from the start — because transparency is one of the things we take seriously at iLumn8.

All sales are final and non-refundable for this program once your enrollment is confirmed. We put significant care and resources into preparing every session, and we know your time and investment are valuable too. That commitment runs in both directions.

That said, we are real people who understand that life can be unpredictable. If you find yourself facing a genuine, unexpected hardship after enrolling, please reach out to us directly at [email protected]. We'll always do our best to find a human solution.

Regardless of whether you're able to attend sessions live, you will continue to have full access to all session recordings and the program resource page for the entire duration of the program. Your investment doesn't disappear if life gets in the way.

If you've chosen a payment plan, your remaining installments will be charged automatically on the dates agreed at checkout. Please keep your payment method current. If a payment doesn't go through, we'll reach out to you directly — we'd far rather work something out with you than lose you from the community.

One more thing worth knowing: while we fully intend to deliver all 21 sessions as planned, occasionally life requires an adjustment. If a session ever needs to be rescheduled or the format needs to change, we will let you know promptly and do everything we can to minimize any disruption. Any session that can't be delivered live will be made available as a recording so you never miss the content.

What if I can't attend all the sessions?

Life is busy — and we designed this program with that reality in mind.

Every single session is recorded and added to your program resource page shortly after it airs. So whether you miss one Tuesday, a few in a row, or you're joining mid-program and catching up from the beginning — everything is there waiting for you, on your schedule, at your pace.

There is no pressure to show up live to every session to get the full value of this program. Many participants find that having the recordings actually deepens their experience — they can pause, rewind, and sit with the material in a way that a live session doesn't always allow.

That said, the live sessions do offer something the recordings can't — the chance to ask Chris your questions in real time, hear what's on other people's minds, and be part of a genuine community conversation as it unfolds. If you can make it live, even occasionally, we'd love to see you there.

But if you can't? You won't miss a thing.

How long will I have access to the recordings?

Indefinitely.

Once you're enrolled, your access to all session recordings and program materials doesn't expire. They're yours to return to whenever you need them — whether that's six months from now when a particular topic becomes newly relevant, or two years down the road when you want to revisit a session with fresh eyes.

We know that healing and personal growth aren't linear. Sometimes the chapter on trauma triggers won't land fully until you've had more time. Sometimes you'll want to go back to session one after completing session twenty and discover things you didn't notice the first time around. We want that door to always be open for you.

So settle in. There's no rush and no deadline. This program is here for the long haul — just like your recovery.

When does the program start & what is the full schedule of sessions?

We kick off on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026 and run every Tuesday for 21 weeks — with one short break built in along the way.

We will be taking two weeks off in September — skipping September 15th and 22nd — while Chris hits the road for Howdycon, the annual gathering of the cult awareness and recovery community. If you know Howdycon, you know it's exactly the kind of event Chris should be at. If you don't, look it up — it's a good sign about the company we keep.

We'll be back on September 29th to pick up right where we left off, wrapping up the full program on October 27th, 2026.

Here's the full picture at a glance:

  • Start date: June 2nd, 2026
  • Day and time: Every Tuesday (time to be confirmed — we'll share this with enrolled participants)
  • Break: September 15th and 22nd
  • Final session: October 27th, 2026
  • Format: Live online sessions, all recorded

And of course — if you can't make a Tuesday live, your recording will be waiting for you. No Tuesday left behind.

Do I need to have read the book before we start?

Not at all. You can arrive exactly as you are.

Session 1 is a dedicated Orientation — no reading required, no prep needed. It's designed to introduce you to the book, the framework, Chris, Anne, and your fellow participants. By the time we head into Session 2 you'll feel grounded and ready for the journey ahead.

The one thing we do ask is this: please read the Introduction before or immediately after Session 1. It's the pre-chapter material that sets the foundation for everything we'll be exploring together, and it will make a real difference to how much you get out of the weeks ahead. It's a meaningful but manageable read — a perfect Tuesday evening companion.

From Session 2 onward, whenever possible try to read the chapter we'll be discussing before that session. We'll always let you know in advance which chapter is up next so you have time to prepare. You don't have to have it perfectly absorbed or take notes — just a read-through is enough to make the live conversation so much richer for you.

That said, life happens and some weeks the chapter just won't get read before Tuesday. That's okay too. The recordings, the resource page, and the community chat are all there to help you stay connected to the material at your own pace.

If you don't yet have a copy of What Now? by Chris Shelton, we'd recommend picking one up before we begin. It's available on Amazon and wherever books are sold.

Is this program a substitute for therapy?

No — and we want to be genuinely clear about that, not just as a legal disclaimer but because we actually care about your wellbeing.

This program is educational and community-oriented at its heart. What Chris and Anne offer across these 21 sessions is expert knowledge, honest conversation, a structured framework for understanding your experience, and a community of people who get it. That is genuinely valuable — and for many people it will be one of the most meaningful things they do in their recovery journey.

But it is not therapy. It does not replace the individualized, professional support that a qualified mental health professional can offer — particularly one who specializes in trauma or coercive control.

If you are currently working with a therapist, this program can be a wonderful complement to that work. Many participants find that the psychoeducation and community discussion actually deepens and accelerates their therapy — giving them language, frameworks, and insights to bring into their sessions.

If you are not currently working with a therapist and feel you might benefit from one, we encourage you to explore that alongside this program. Chris's book What Now? includes a thoughtful chapter on finding ethical therapy, and we will be covering that material together in Session 15.

You deserve every layer of support available to you. This program is one of them — and we're glad you're here.
